August 14-15, 1993The end was now very much in sight. We decided to save Table Top for last so that we could have some friends join us in celebrating. This meant that only Marshall, Redfield and Cliff remained. These three are all conviently located in the proximity of Lake Colden. Also in our favor was finding out that Mr. Sanderson needed these three mountains to complete his forty-six. We met him at the Upper Works parking lot on Saturday morning and hiked in to Lake Colden where we set up camp. With a lighter load, we then backtracked a little to Herbert Brook, our route up Mount Marshall. This turned out to be one of our best hikes as Herbert Brook was beautiful. We made our way back down the Lake Colden and got ready for the night. Halfway through the night a large thunderstorm began. The sound of thunder rolling through the hills was awesome. The tent Mike and I were in was suddenly over a large puddle. With were forced to quicly move to higher ground before everything got soaked. The next morning was clear and cold thanks to the storm. We were all set for Redfield and Cliff. For Redfield, we followed Uphill Brook uphill for a little while before branching off and up Redfield. Apparently, Redfield has one of the most underrated views in the area. I do not remember. Next was Cliff. We headed back down and then up the old Cordury Road for a little while before taking the herd path up Cliff. We encountered no problems on this trail. It did not feel like we had down any climbing before we reached the canister. We headed back to camp, packed up and headed home with the satisfaction of knowing that only one peaked was left.
