Nye and Street

Up to this point we hiked mostly on trails.  We decided to try two 'trailless' peaks.  This hike began at Adirondack Loj.  Our route departed from the Indian Pass trail not far beyond the Loj.  We were fortunate to have an enormous, recently fallen Eastern White Pine spanning Indian Pass Brook to simplify the stream crosing.  We followed a somewhat distinct trail up to a flag marking a split between the trails to Nye and Street mountains.  We found Nye with relative easy but could not retrace our steps back to the flag.  We circled around for a bit and the next thing we knew we were on Nye again.  Eventually we were able to find the canister on Street.  From Street we struggled for quite some time trying to find the flag marking our route back down to the brook.  My father decided it was best to do a pure bushwhack back to the Loj.  I would not move off of our herd path.  I felt that circling around for hours on the herd paths between Street and Nye would eventually prove more productive than the sort of bushwhack he had in mind.  My plan was used and we did find the trail junction.  Other than one of the boys slipping on the tree and part way into the brook, the rest of the day was uneventful.  This would be our last trailless adventure for many years.

There are no pictures from this hike. There is not much to see anyway.
